The U.S. Army Drill Team, one of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment’s (The Old Guard) renowned specialty units, has earned international acclaim through its breathtaking routines with bayonet-tipped 1903 Springfield rifles. In 1948, The Old Guard selected the Army’s finest Soldiers to concentrate on precise marching and crisp rifle drill.  These Soldiers became what is known as The U.S. Army Drill Team.  With its daring and complex routines, the Drill Team supports The Old Guard’s ceremonial missions and thrills millions of youngsters and proud Americans throughout the year.

Soldiers are selected for this elite team after 90 days of rigorous and competitive drill practice.  Trim military bearing, strength and dexterity are mandatory to qualify for the Drill Team.

For those selected, the rigors of training never stop.  The team practices constantly to execute the complicated routines as they strive for perfection.

Acting as “good-will ambassadors” for the Army, the Drill Team travels extensively, participating in major military and community events.  Although the original members are long gone, the rigid standards they established remain unchanged.  Today’s Drill Team Soldiers and their performances are one of the finest examples of what dedicated training and teamwork produces in today’s Army.
