The Band performs at a variety of military and community events throughout the National Capital Region and has toured throughout Canada and the world.

The Band was authorized on formation in 1872 with many of the members coming from the Band of the Ottawa Brigade of Garrison Artillery.  Under the baton of the first Director of Music, John C. Bonner the Band's first performance was 15 June 1872.

One of the most distinguished of Bonner's successors was Arthur A. Clappé, who led the band for several years, developing a strong complement of 35 men. Joseph Miller Brown, a noted cornetist, was one of Clappé's successors. Brown took the band to New York City in 1906 and again in 1909 on the occasion of the Champlain tercentennial. His son (and successor in 1923) Joseph T. Brown led the band at the opening of Madison Square Gardens in New York in 1925 and at the opening of the International Peace Bridge between Buffalo and Fort Erie in 1937. Brown later left the Band to form the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Band.

The Band is an authorized Canadian Forces 35 piece Brass and Reed Band.  It is made up of serving members of the Canadian Forces Primary Reserve who parade on a part-time basis.  It is augmented by Associate members who formerly served in the Regiment.
