There are few events in a military unit’s calendar that surpass the spectacle of a Military Tattoo and The Bermuda Regiment is truly excited about hosting the 2005 Bermuda Tattoo. This Tattoo is part of our 40th Anniversary celebrations and promises to be another dazzling display by our Band and Corps of Drums.
I have long believed that our Band and Corps of Drums is the best in the world. I have been fortunate enough to have had ample opportunities for this opinion to be reaffirmed, none more so poignant than their spectacular performance at the 2003 Edinburgh Tattoo. There, while winning the hearts of everyone in Edinburgh, they confirmed their international status as a unit that has astounding abilities.
Now, Bermuda will once again have the chance to witness the brilliance of our Band and Corps of Drums. This Tattoo has been in the planning stages for over a year and promises to be another performance par excellence. The performances will be led by two of Bermuda’s finest musicians, the Director of Music Major Barrett Dill and the Bandmaster Warrant Officer Class One Dwight Robinson. Both are graduates of Kneller Hall, the world’s most prestigious military school of music, and they have put together a programme that will mesmerise all those who witness this gala event.
We welcome the participation of the Bermuda Islands Pipe Band, The National Gombey Troupe, and The Somerset Brigade Band. In addition to our local talents, several overseas bands and performers, from Jamaica, Canada and the United Kingdom, will entertain the crowds. Throw in the 1812 Overture, complete with cannonade, along with some stunning fireworks and the stage is set for an outstanding night of entertainment.
I extend thanks to The Bermuda Government for their backing of this Tattoo. This is another indication of the unequivocal support that The Honourable Premier and his Government have shown to us over the years. I hasten to offer our thanks to our Corporate Sponsors without whom, this would not be possible. We thank them for their benevolence and their continued support of an institution that has made an invaluable contribution to the fabric of our community during its 40 years of existence.
To the families and employers of our personnel I also give thanks for their continued and unwavering commitment to the Band and Corps of Drums. This Tattoo has required an enormous amount of time for rehearsals and we appreciate the sacrifices that families in particular make in order for our members to continue to fine tune their craft.
I consider myself to be very blessed to be the Commanding Officer presently as this is indeed an exciting time for The Bermuda Regiment as we celebrate the milestone of our 40th Anniversary. I can think of no better way to rejoice than to mark this juncture with what will no doubt be a glittering occasion at the Royal Naval Keep Yard.
I am certain that all who attend will enjoy a scintillating and magnificent evening. On behalf of all the Officers, men and women in The Bermuda Regiment, I thank you for your support and for sharing with us this special moment in our illustrious history.
